Our expert instructor KRU Jeff Trevino has been practicing Muaythai since 1998 and was certified by Master Saohin Srisuk in 2016. He is currently a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu under Helio Soneca. He will teach any person valuable life skills such as discipline, self-defense, goal setting, confidence, and leadership to push you to reach your goals!

**Professor Jose Lopez: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach and Competitor**

 

Professor Jose Lopez is a first-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a dedicated coach based in Brownsville, Texas. A Texas native and former United States Marine, he embodies discipline, service, and leadership.

 

He began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2014 and quickly made a name for himself. Lopez was the first black belt awarded by Professor Fernando Halfeld at the School of Jiu-Jitsu in Richwood, Texas, showcasing his character and technical expertise. He has been teaching since earning his purple belt, focusing on fundamentals and long-term growth.

 

As a competitor, Lopez has achieved significant success:

- As a purple belt, he won gold at the IBJJF American Nationals and earned silver in the open class, later claiming third place at the IBJJF Masters World Championship.

- As a brown belt, he won gold at both the IBJJF No-Gi Pan Championships and the IBJJF No-Gi World Championships in 2022, along with a bronze in the open class.

- In January 2023, he achieved black belt status and has since earned a first degree, marking nearly a decade of dedication to the art.

 

Since moving to the Rio Grande Valley in July 2025, Professor Lopez has continued to mentor students of all levels, emphasizing discipline, adaptability, and the mindset necessary for success in Jiu-Jitsu and life.
